Founded in 1910 in Milan, Italy with a focus on performance, design, and motorsport, Alfa Romeo continues to live up to its founding mantra with its new 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C. Just like its predecessors, this stunning and well-executed design language offers value for its price. For daily driving though, other similarly priced vehicles are a better choice. Its release date after much speculation and hype is set for September next year.
Although the 2017 4C gives up a lot in terms of comfort for on-road performance. Some of its strengths lie in its ability to offer high fuel economy ratings, razor-sharp handling and steering, and a brisk acceleration.
For starters, the Alfa Romeo 4C and other models with the same nameplate aren’t meant for anyone. This has been partly the reason why the automaker has suffered major setbacks in terms of sales ever since it quietly exited from the United States over two decades ago.
Hopefully, things are getting better for the Fiat owned Italian automaker. Most of the focus now lies on the 4C which is expected to make a quick turn-around of the lost glory.
The Romeo 4C built in Modena, Italy is nothing close to what we’ve seen before. It uses exotic sports cars’ manufacturing techniques such as utilization of a carbon fiber tub, and aluminum-built structures.
Things get more interesting under its hood as it comes with a rather uninspiring four-cylinder 1.7L engine rated at 250 horsepower and 260 pounds of torque. Well, this isn’t the news here. The beauty of its output lies in its curb weight which is 2,500 pounds.
So, even in today’s world of 700-hp producing sedans and coupes, the Romeo 4C is still calculative and performance-oriented despite its diminutive engine output. The suspension system offers many upgrades including but not limited to the TRW/Brembo brakes, an available Truck package (bundles a loud sport exhaust system, and aggressive suspension settings and tires), and a race tuned suspension.

2017 Alfa Romeo 4C Engine Specs
Under the hood of the 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C is a four-cylinder 1.7L engine good for 237 horsepower and 258 lbs. ft. of torque. The automated clutch manual transmission routes all this power to the aft wheels.
Simulated drive tests conducted reveal the 4C only requires 4.2 seconds for an acceleration of 0-60 mph. This time compares similarly to that achieved by the 2016 Chevy Corvette, and quicker than that of the BMW M4 and the Porsche Cayman. It is estimated that the 4C will achieve 24/34/28 mpg in the city/highway/combined.
