The new and updated BMW 2 Series for 2017 is a small, performance oriented vehicle that has been able to combined comfort and sportiness. For 2017, the previously optional Premium package is now standard, and now, the M235i Convertible can be ordered with an AWD system. Also, the 2017 BMW 2 Series 228i trim now comes with standard sport seats. And lastly, a new Luxury package adds chrome exterior and leather trim.

For those of us who have been dreaming of a luxury and comfort laden small car able to effortlessly cruise the highway and a winding mountain, there exists no direct competitor to what the 2017 BMW 2 Series offers.

The sprightly equipped 228i trim comes equipped with a seven-speaker sound system, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, automatic climate control (dual zone), satellite and HD radio, leatherette upholstery, cruise control, automatic headlights, LED foglights, BMW’s iDrive electronics interface, a telescopic-and-tilt steering wheel, automatic wipers, and a 6.5” infotainment screen.

An optional Premium package available for the above trim comes bundled with keyless ignition and entry, driver memory functions, power-folding heated side mirrors, satellite radio, auto-dimming side mirrors, ambient interior and exterior lighting, rear view mirrors, and 10-way sport front seats.

The high-performance version – M235i model comes equipped with a rear spoiler, a sportier variable-ratio steering, an M sport steering, adaptive suspension dampers, upgraded aluminum trim, upgraded brakes, an aerodynamic body kit, grey outside mirror caps, a sport exhaust system, and LED accent lights. Furthermore, the Premium package is standard for the M235i trim.

The M-Sport package comes with a variety of performance-oriented features optional for the M235i trim. They include an aerodynamic body kit, summer performance 18” wheels, a sport suspension system, Shadowline exterior trim, and an M-Sport steering wheel. Also optional available is the Track Handling package that comes with an adaptive variable steering and suspension system, upgraded brakes, and 18” alloy wheels.

Those aching for more comfort can opt for the Luxury package that comes with chrome exterior trim, 18” wheels and leather upholstered cabin.

Other packages available for the M235i and 228i include the Cold Weather package that comes bundled with heated steering wheel, headlight washers, and front heated seats. The Technology Package adds a navigation system, Facebook and Pandora apps (BMW Apps), a higher-resolution 8.8” infotainment system, an enhanced driver information display, and BMW Remote Services.

Lastly, the Driver Assistance package wraps up the optional packages offerings. It comes hustled with a forward collision mitigation system, rear and front parking sensors, a lane departure warning system, automatic high-beam headlights, pedestrian detection, and automatic braking system.

By default, the fresh 2017 BMW 2 Series is a RWD, while optional is the xDrive system. To kick start the engine performance 2017 offerings is the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine available on the 2017 BMW 2 Series 228i trim. Its output stands at 241 horsepower and 255 pounds of torque. During our test drive, a rear-wheel-drive 228i coupe accelerated from 0-60 mph in just 5.1 seconds.

Stepping up the performance arena is the M235I which comes equipped with a 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine rated at 321 horsepower and 330 pounds of torque. Hustling a RWD M235i to 60 mph resulted in a blistering 4.5 seconds.
