Whereas the existing model is a dedicated performance sedan, the 2017 BMW M5 is without a flicker of doubt, the mother of all in the luxury super-sedan segment. For a novice, the BMW M5 is among the small elite of the fastest four-door cars in the world. But that’s not even the news, what it offers in terms of comfort, interior appointments, and luxury amenities are what sets it apart from the rest of them of all. The BMW M5 2017 release date should be expected sometime this fall or early next year as a 2017 year model.
As if an illustrious introduction isn’t enough, the 2017 BMW M5 further assaults any would-be rival with features such as a powerful yet refined V8 engine, an available manual transmission system, excellent seats, an impressive handling, and a razor-sharp steering precision.
The capability of the 2017 BMW M5 is akin to having your cake and eating it, too. What furthers its appeal does not even lie in its impressive performance figures nor its stately design, it is squarely based on its intricate combination of all these performance features and cabin refinement without seemingly jeopardizing any of them to enhance another one. A case in point is concentrating too much on luxury and stately appeal and forgetting about performance related specs.
Just as the M2 is based on the 2 Series, and the M3 on the 3 series, the 2017 BMW M5 also derives much of its inspiration from the 5 Series. Just like its immediate predecessor, the new M5 comes with a 4.4L direct injection V8 engine good for 560 horsepower @6,000rpm and 500 pounds-feet of torque @1,500rpm. You can actually improve the power output if you opt for the available Competition Package. Besides coming with a familiar output, the new model also features the same dimensions as before: height – 57.3”, width – 74.4”, and length – 193.5”. The curb weight also remains at 4,387 pounds.
Fuel economy is impressive on its class and you might occasionally be lucky to get 20 mpg in combined city/highway cruising. BMW says even with twisty back roads, you’ll still be able to enjoy the ride quality thanks to features such as driver-adjustable adaptive suspension system, and standard torque-vectoring rear differential.
But even with a seemingly alluring profile, the 2017 BMW M5 still suffers some setbacks, too. Some of these include a compromised engaging driving quality, and the ride quality may be sometimes harsh than its forebears. That said, it’d be prudent to check what else the segment offers. Some of the available choices available include the Jaguar XFR-S, Audi RS 7, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, and the Porsche Panamera.
There’s no doubt the 2017 BMW M5 will undoubtedly strum the right chords for a significant chunk of buyers in its class, but the competition above also deserves some consideration if performance is your overriding priority.
