With a spacious interior with creature comforts, a strong 2.0L turbocharged engine, refined drive quality, fuel economy, 6-footers-friendly fronts seats, and a crisp and responsive 8-inch screen, the new 2017 Chevrolet Malibu is now a fully competitive midsize sedan. Its date of release, even though speculative at the time of this writing, should be expected in May 2017.
While we didn’t find the previous Malibu model likable, we weren’t also particularly enthralled with it, either. It failed to tick some boxes that we considered crucial for a vehicle in its segment, and in the face of so many rivals angling for some recognition, we didn’t find it competitive. Some of the downsides it came with included a cramped backseat and rental-fleet styling made it a bygone by conventional standards.
For 2017 though, Chevrolet has redesigned the Malibu and it now comes sporting various upscale features that will undoubtedly make it a strong contender for the top spot in its class. At a distant you’ll notice its conspicuous exterior design cues that evokes an Audi A7 to some extent with its fauxe-sleek hatchback profile.
The hood has also been tinkered with four-cylinder and turbocharged engines that produce anything in the range of 160 to 250 horsepower. The outgoing model fell short in terms of performance but with the potent powerplants under the hood of the 2017 Malibu, buyers will find it even more appealing now.
Let’s face it though, the segment offers even better alternatives. The fully redesigned 2017 Honda Accord remains arguably one of the most compelling vehicle in the segment in terms of value and interior appointments. Another well-rounded choice for the money is the 2017 Hyundai Sonata. We also take this opportunity to introduce the 2017 Mazda 6, which has for long been underappreciated but packs lots of athleticism and style.
