The new 2017 Citroen DS5 has been updated and freshened ahead of its release. Its styling is avant-garde and combines crisp edges with aerodynamic cues to give it a bold, futuristic new design that helps distinguish it from the rest of the offering sin its class. It perfectly balances advanced technologies, attention to detail and refinement, with a dynamic performance to offer a unique vehicle that embodies the character of existing and future DS vehicles. This review covers details concerning the DS5 review, release date, price, engine specifications, and exterior and interior changes.
For 2017, the new model comes with an impressive new front, and numerous changes to its cabin technologies and refinement. New features include adaptive LED headlights and taillights, sculpted, DS-monogrammed vertical grille, and a new touch-drive interface. All these features are in addition to existing features such as exceptional interior and exterior designs, futuristic exterior cues, and the characteristic driving position which imitates a cockpit.
For the motoring public, the DS5 is arguably impressionistic. While its market is predominantly China and Europe, rumors have emerged that Citroen’s objective is to cast its net even wider thanks to the DS5 evolution that has taken a premium-centric approach. This is what Yves Bonnefont, CEO DS brand had to say, “The new Citroen DS5 2017 represents ideas and the new evolutionary path that future Citroen products will be taking. And yet, with over six decades in its résumé, the new model is still a DS5 to the core.”
The exterior profile is a unique creation with expressive hypnotic styling that help set it apart from the smorgasbord of other offerings. For 2017, the face gains even more prestige and character. Similar to the DS 3 and the DS 3 Cabrio, the new 2017 Citroen DS5 also comes with LED lighting technologies, and a new light signature. The new model is immediately recognizable regardless of the angle of view.
The Interior, on the other end, is masterfully crafted and features latest technologies with a cockpit style driving position. Also available are a host of convenience, infotainment, and entertainment features that work seamlessly with one another. Some of the distinct features available in the cabin include an ergonomic-designed touch-drive interface, upgraded navigation system, a new Mirror Screen Technology, mobile phone integration via the MyDS, and the DS Connect Box.
Other technologies available on the latest DS5 include a lane-departure, a blind spot monitor, automatic high-beam control, hill-start assist, a heads-up display, a rearview camera, intelligent traction control, and stability control. Others include keyless entry and ignition, electric memory and massaging front seats, a dual-zone automatic climate control, heated mirrors, Denon Hi-Fi system, and ambient lighting.
2017 Citroen DS5 Release Date & Price
While these details are yet to be confirmed, new reports allege the new model is expected to go for sale for around $23,000 for a basic version. The price can however sky rocket by an extra $10 grand depending on the options you decide to equip it with. Expect its release date sometime in the first half of 2017.
2017 Citroen DS5 Exterior
According to the automaker, the new model will come riding on the PSA PF2 platform that is currently in use in vehicles such as the Peugeot 3008, DS 6, and the C4 Picasso. What this means is that the new model will share most of the features with the three models. Nevertheless, certain features will also be available in order to make it distinct from the rest. Such features are our primary focus here. As already mentioned, the headlights and taillights will feature LED technology. The front and rear bumper have been revised and now look more modern than before.
Other features include 18-inch alloy wheels, refreshed door handles, pronounced side skirts, dual tailpipes, and wide LED taillights.
2017 Citroen DS5 Interior
There is extensive attention to detail on the interior of the DS5. Upgraded leather, metal work on the gear, and use of aluminum on the interior of the doors reflect Citroen use of authentic materials. A new interior trim, in addition to the existing model’s ‘watch strap’ upholstery is also available. More details will be updated as the release date approaches.
Engines aren’t expected to change from the existing ones that include a 210-horsepower – generating 1.5L four-cylinder, a 180- horsepower- yielding 2.0L turbo-diesel inline-4, and a 200-horsepower – generating 2.0L HDi four-cylinder engine.
When it comes to safety, the new model will come with a slew of driver-assistance features that will help the driver avoid potential impacts. A five star rating for overall crash impact protection by NHTSA is expected given the updates the new model is boasting of.
