If you have insatiable appetite for unbridled performance and power, tenacious handling, an unfiltered and unapologetic sports car, excellent infotainment interface, and a ludicrous V10 power, the new 2017 Dodge Viper could very well be the sports car for you. However, it falls short in terms of convenience, refinement, and comfort. Its date of release, although still speculative at the time of this writing, should be expected in September 2017.
While the segment has evolved to become competitive and modern due to the exponential number of new vehicles coming in, the Viper has managed to be brush, loud, rough, and challenging to drive just as fans love it. It is a vehicle that is meant for people who have a vicious appetite for raw performance, but taxing for everyone else.
Under the hood of the Viper is a V10 engine behemoth that generates a humongous 645 horsepower. For starters, it can be quite frightening with its furious roar when pushed long and hard. In the hands of gifted drivers, it can quite delightful and can achieve very high handling limits, but fear-provoking for the uninitiated.
So much effort has been dedicated by Dodge to make the Viper a high-performance vehicle, but in the process several aspects like convenience, comfort, and performance have suffered. In all fairness, the viper isn’t comfortable to drive for long distances and can be quite punishing. And the problem is further propagated by the track-centric ACR Coupe model.
While owning a viper can quite a big commitment to take, there are many rivals in the market that can offer far lesser drawbacks and plenty of comfort without jeopardizing their performance aspects. One of our top recommendations that also proudly waves the American supercar banner is the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 model.
Others include the 2017 Ford Shelby GT350 which has been causing some jitters in the market. The 2017 Porsche 911, and the 2017 Nissan GT-R are also intriguing alternatives worth taking a look at. There are a few differences when you compare the ACR vs. Corvette ZR1, but chief among them is the price difference.

The SRT’s list of standard features includes power adjustable pedals, keyless entry and ignition, 18” front and 19” rear wheels, a navigation system, a tilt-only leather wrapped steering wheel, an 8.4” touchscreen display, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, satellite and HD radio, 12-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system, a rearview camera, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, faux suede inserts, and SRT performance apps.
the GT upgrades things with leather-trimmed seats, five-mode stability control system, a six-way power driver seat, a taller 6th gear ratio, a racier hood, an 18-speaker premium Harman Kardon audio system, premium leather upholstery, and upgraded brake rotors. The GTC adds a premium leather trim, and unique gunmetal interior treatments, while the GTS gets upgraded premium audio system, and 19” front wheels.
The performance-themed ACR weight is substantially reduced by using less manual adjustable seats, less sound insulation, minimal three-speaker stereo, lighter-weight carpeting, and less sound insulation. In return, the ACR gains more aggressive summer performance tires, manually-adjustable spring rates, adjustable damper settings, a stiffer suspension, carbon ceramic brake rotors, carbon-fiber aerodynamic elements, and six-piston brake calipers.
Some premium features available on top-rated models are also available for the lower trims as options. They include more aggressive aerodynamic tweaks, a carbon rear diffuser, an adjustable rear wing, and numerous carbon-fiber interior and exterior treatments.
