Sporting an eye-catching styling, generous warranty, a sporty handling, good value, and a powerful turbo engine are some of the features that contribute to the fun-to-drive nature of the 2017 Kia Sportage. Its date of release should be expected towards the end of 2017.
Every now and then Kia imbues its vehicles with some sporty vibe, and that’s what the new Sportage capitalizes upon. Throughout the production of the current generation of Sportage models, Kia has managed to guarantee its would-be users of a strong performance and nimble handling.
With a whopping 260 horsepower and about 269 lbs. ft. of torque available for the Sportage SX model and an affordable window sticker than most of its competitors, the new 2017 Kia Sportage will undoubtedly endear to many shopping in this segment.
However, not everything in the Sportage is likable. For instance, the vehicle shorts fall in terms of fuel economy, a rather firm ride, and a cramped backseat. If you find the downsides unforgivable, you probably should check some of the alternatives out there. They include the newly updated 2016 Hyundai Tucson, the sporty 2017 Mazda CX-5 and 2017 Ford Escape. And if utility is your thing, you’ll find both the 2017 Toyota RAV4 and 2017 CR-V appealing.

Interior Picture Review & Exterior Photos – 2017 Kia Sportage
Standard accessories available for the LX include cruise control, a USB port, full power accessories, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, 17-inch alloy wheels, an auxiliary audio jack, a CD player, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a 60/40-split folding and reclining rear seats, cloth upholstery, air-conditioning, satellite and HD radio, a height-adjustable driver seat, a six-speaker sound system, rear privacy glass, and adaptive LED headlights.
Optional items include a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, a trip computer, a rear center armrest, a rearview camera, a rear spoiler, illuminated vanity mirrors, and roof rails.
Stepping up to the EX trim gets you heated front seats, Kia’s Uvo telematics system, a leather upholstery, keyless ignition and entry, 18-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a six-way power driver seat, chrome exterior trim, automatic climate control (dual-zone), and adjustable lumbar support.
The EX Premium trim adds an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a cooled glovebox, a panoramic sunroof, heated power-folding mirrors, foglights, HD and satellite radio, a 7-inch touchscreen interface, ventilated front seats, voice controls, upgraded Infiniti sound system, and a navigation system.
The sport-themed SX trim further gets a panoramic sunroof, a turbocharged engine, different 18-inch wheels, LED taillights, unique front grille, aluminum scuff plates, LED daytime running lights, and dual-exhaust outlets.
Interior wise, you will notice that the Sportage offers top-notch materials and a handsome styling that ensures passengers are comfortable even during long trips. The knobs, buttons, and gauges are thoughtfully laid out and intuitive. The 7-inch touchscreen interface, for instance, makes the navigation system easily accessible.
The only downside here in terms of aesthetic appeal is the use of extensive plastics throughout the cabin, but this is conspicuously offset by the well-placed padding that is well accented and textured.
Similar to most models in this segment, the front seats of the Sportage offer impressive support and comfort, however, you get a different story with the backseats.
The Kia Sportage pictures you see here were taken from the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, and more will be available once Kia makes more information public.
2017 Kia Sportage Engine Specs
The LX and EX models are inspired by a 2.4L engine under their hoods. This four cylinder powerplant generates 182 horsepower and 177 lbs. ft. of torque which is then transferred to the front wheels via the six-speed automatic transmission system.
The SX, on the other hand, gets a more powerful turbocharged engine that has a displacement of 2.0L. The output – 260 horsepower and 269 lbs. ft. of torque produced gets routed to either the FWD or the AWD via the same six-speed auto.
It only takes the front-wheel drive SX model 6.5 seconds for a 0-60 mph acceleration, and 7.3 seconds for the all-wheel drive version.
