The all-new 2017 Renault Kaptur debuted in Moscow earlier this year. The 2017 Kaptur is one among the many list of vehicles that Renault plans to offer outside of Europe. The most prominent change for the new model is perhaps the exterior changes and a four-wheel drive system. Its Russia release date is set for early 2017. Read on to get more details on what you should expect from the all-new Renault Captur.
The new model has been designed for the Russian market. The entire design process aims to make it competitive in the Russian and Eurasian Customs Union markets. Despite the obvious class with other better-placed models, Renault hopes that the new model’s contemporary design, upscale technologies, and top-notch materials will help make it competitive. Some of the changes include the replacement of the “C” in Captur with an emphatic “K”. The Kaptur also gains a four-wheel drive, and specific dimensions.
This is what Corporate Design, Vice President, Group Renault – Laurens van had to say, “Specific attention to Russian needs for versatility, comfort, and off-road abilities were combined with Renault’s eye-catching design during the designing of the Renault Kaptur. The result is a robust, expressive, and genuine crossover.”
The front of the new model features an assertive bold Renault logo set against a gloss black background. The grille, on the upper part, is distinctive and features a honeycomb mesh pattern, while the width gets visually wider thanks to the broad lower part of the bumper. The length dimension is expressed by the sculpted forms of the door inserts and bonnet. Talking of dimensions, here’s what to expect: length – 4,333mm, height – 1,613mm, width – 1,813mm, and wheelbase – 2,674mm.
Renault further made it appealing through the distinct blend of customization options available for buyers. It is particularly intended for people who value comfort, appreciate a modern atmosphere, and lead a busy life. The interior, on the other end of the spectrum, is occupant-friendly, comfortably-appointed, and stylish. In addition to getting a comfortable rear bench fitting three adults, the cabin is also designed to offer impressive ground clearance, and remarkable exterior visibility.
The Kaptur’s practicality doesn’t end there, boot volume is 387 liters. You’ll find that loading cargo in the boot is as easy as it can be thanks to the additional boot lighting and wide tailgate aperture.
Modern equipment include keyless entry and ignition, smartphone app connectivity, a 7-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, and MEDIA NAV system. Also, the vehicle has been designed to cope with the harsh weather conditions encountered in most regions in Russia. Such features include a reliable all-wheel drive transmission system, a heavy-duty suspension system, and an impressive ground clearance. Harsh wintry conditions can be off-set by the available heated windscreen, heated front seats, and Renault’s Remote Engine Start system.
2017 Renault Kaptur Release Date & Price
The new model should be expected to cost around $21,621 and $27,822 without options. Its release date should be expected sometime in the first half of 2017.
2017 Renault Kaptur Exterior
Even at a distant, the car is distinctively a Kaptur. Despite being concealed by tape, it comes with the same grille design and the headlights carry a similar shape. As you can see from the images, it is quite possible that the front bumper too features significant redesigns. The side profile remains virtually unaltered save for the wheelbase dimensions beneath. It is evident that the new model has a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model.
Around back, the taillights are a bit smaller than those of the existing model. Although heavily guised, it seems as though the rear profile of the new model is a bit toned down.
2017 Renault Kaptur Interior
At this point in time, the interior remains a mystery. But my crystal ball tells me it will be something similar to that of the current Captur. Details should be public some few weeks before its release date nevertheless.
Details about the engine option(s) remains a mystery too for now. But we highly suspect that the new model will come equipped with a 120 horsepower and 140 lbs. ft. of torque – generating TCe 120 engine. A diesel variant is also available.
Given the competition includes all-rounded vehicles like the Mazda CX-5, and the Honda CR-V, it only seems logical if Renault matched or even bettered them in order to remain competitive in the segment. Crash impact assessment is yet to be conducted on the 2017 Kaptur, an update will be posted on this post in real time once the results are out. So keep posted!
