2017 Subaru Crosstrek Release Date, Review and Info

2017 Subaru Crosstrek Review

The new 2017 Subaru Crosstrek is a versatile vehicle that offers a go-anywhere gusto in a small package. Even with stellar safety ratings, a generous standard feature galore, relatively strong off-road capability, spacious seating and laudable fuel economy ratings, rivals may tend to be solid choices in the way of on-road performance and refinement. The comprehensive review below will bring you up to speed with all the details you need to know pertaining its exterior and interior, engine specs, price, and release date.

Subaru is a daring brand that has continued to impress with its standard AWD system even when no other brand was doing so. It also uses the same engine type as Porsche’s “flat” or “boxer” configuration. The Crosstrek, for starters, is simply a beefed up Impreza in terms of a tougher looking styling, a higher ride height, and suspension components.

However, there are plenty of reasons why buyers should consider its rivals. For instance, we’ve found the Crosstrek to be among the slowest vehicles in its class. The output is underwhelming, to say the least, and things even get worse when it is coupled with the CVT transmission system which spoils the already disappointing system with its hair-triggering propensity and responses that make the engine whine loudly.

With such features, it is hard for us to recommend the Crosstrek to any serious buyer, but for those who are always in urban environments will likely find it useful to some extent. Thus, we highly recommend other alternatives such as the more expensive Subaru’s own 2017 Forester, the 2017 Toyota RAV4, the 2017 Jeep Renegade, the 2017 Mazda CX-3, and the 2017 Honda HR-V.

However, if you want an inexpensive crossover/hatchback that can easily get you off the unbeaten path, you may want to wait for the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek.

Engine Specs – 2017 Subaru Crosstrek

The base (non-hybrid) Crosstrek offers a four-cylinder horizontally opposed “boxer” powerplant beneath its hood. The power – 148 horsepower and 145 lbs. ft. of torque is routed to the front wheels via the standard AWD system via the five-speed manual transmission system. The optional CVT is also available.

The Hybrid steps up the power output through the combination of the standard engine and the CVT with the electric motor to achieve a combined output of about 160 horsepower and 163 lbs. ft. of torque. A time of 10.0 seconds should get you from 0-60 mph.

With the CVT, EPA says we should expect the engine to return 34/26/29 mpg on the highway/city/combined, and 31/23/26 mpg with the manual transmission system

Its release date should be expected in May 2017. Once available, the Crosstrek Hybrid will go for sale for $26,395, and a base MSRP starting from $21,595 for the Crosstrek SUV.
