The 2017 XC90 redesign marks the first ever comprehensive makeover since its debut twelve years ago. And naturally, that has made the first model ancient by conventional standards. Most brands redesign their models every five years on average. Volvo has long been noted for its understated style and advanced safety features, however, the industry has evolved and the previously–acknowledged strengths have been overshadowed by other brands who have perfected their technologies.

Nonetheless, the new 2017 Volvo XC90 has brought back its charm. The larger grille, assertive styling, slimmer headlights, and aggressive lower air intakes have all managed to give the XC90 a refreshing appeal without necessarily losing its identity.

Interior wise, Volvo has infused several upscale materials, for instance, it combines wood, leather and even Swedish crystal glass. The result is a high-luxury feel cabin that makes any driving experience a memorable one.

A new four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine does the magic under its hood. You can expect an output of 316 horsepower, which is impressive in comparison to what its traditional rivals offer. Also, Volvo has been making news lately about its plug-in hybrid model that Volvo says will make upwards of 394 hp. And despite the fuel economy ratings lacking, it is expected to offer the best ratings better than any other seven-passenger SUV.

Anyone shopping in the seven-passenger segment will most probably come across several of its rivals, which include 2017 Buick Enclave, 2017 Acura MDX, 2017 BMW X5, and 2017 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. Although the above vehicles boasts of several upscale features over the XC90, the new 2017 Volvo XC90 reinvention and revitalization gives it a refreshing appeal.
