The appearance of a 2019 Abarth 124 coupe car really sounds interesting and amusing for the crowds, but will this project make it to the final stage of development. For now we only have some rumors and renderings available, without any spy photos to back everything up. But sometimes a small spark is enough to sparkplug the whole project.
Ever since Fiat unveiled their 124 Spider project, rumors about an Abarth car started to circulate. It is supposed to be a racer-inspired version car and there were even some reports that this car was supposed to be introduced to the new World Rally Championship. FIA was reportedly planning on greenlighting this kind of a championship where only cars with the same built as the 124 model would participate. But for now, these only remain rumors as no official confirmation has been made.
But the prospect of getting a race ready Abarth 124 would also prompt the production of a road-ready vehicle and since the regulations for the race track would require the car to be built in a coupe form, why not make a coupe model of the Abarth 124 for the 2019 model year. The model will be based on the MX-5 look and also adopt the appearance of the Fiat 124 model and this prospect would actually be doable.
When Would This car Appear?
The prospect of getting a 2019 Abarth 124 coupe does sound interesting but it is far from completion. It would require some things to come together and many sides to come to a conclusion. We are hopeful of seeing this car as it appears like a very likeable potential car which would interest a lot of people in its coupe form. Getting this model in 2019 could be doable and we are looking forward to more news about the release date.
What Could the Price be?
The price for the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe is still in the making. We cannot really confirm how much would this vehicle cost and it is even hard to guess because the Fiat 124 has yet to reveal their potential price. For now, estimations for the Fiat 124 say that it might cost around $28,000, leaving us to think that the Abarth 124 would receive a price tag of $31,000 in its coupe form and potentially $35,000 if they ever decide to make a convertible model.
Rendering of the Exterior of the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe
If they do decide to make the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe, they will probably base the exterior look mostly on the race version. This means that we are looking at a styling almost identical to the race car. The car will probably get a metal top and also add a new front bumper, a redesigned grille, and place a large wing on top of the trunk lid. But some elements need to be made easier for production so the rear diffuser needs to be toned down and the wheels are going to be smaller while different tires are supposed to be used as well.
The rally based fog lights are also not going to be used for the coupe version and the height that the car rides on is increased for the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe car. Finally, Abarth cars offer the most customization compared to other cars in the market, so there is going to be a slew of additional accessories which will follow the release of the coupe version. There is no telling what they might add here but it is sure to be an immense offer.
Potential Inside Appearance
The inside of the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe is going to be mostly made as the inside of the Fiat 124 model, which was in turn based on the Miata MX-5. The upscale features added for those cars are the a steering wheel wrapped in leather, new door panels, and some added leather on the lower part of the dash and we assume that those will be transferred for the Abarth 124 coupe. But we also expect to get a few unique parts added for the Abarth, which potentially include a flat-bottom steering wheel, a 7-inch TFT display with an added display, and added parts which would make for a very sporty look of the cockpit.
There are not going to use the standard seats as they will most likely be substituted with different ones that come with Scorpion-embroideries on their headrests. Since the coupe version has a roof which is fixed, we cannot hope for added headroom but we can be sure that the model will add optional and customizable colors for the interior leather.
What Drivetrain will the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe Use?
The drivetrain of the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe will probably borrow the one from the Spider car. For now the Spider is said to use either a 500’s turbocharged 1.4-liter engine or a 1.75-liter turbo-four. The Abarth 124 coupe will also transfer the specs so we are expecting an output of between 160 horsepower to somewhere around 200 horsepower from the first option, while the secondary one might make up to 240 horsepower. The engines will combine with either a 6-speed manual shifter or a 6-speed automatic transmission, which are going to be modified for quicker shifting.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
As far as top speed and acceleration performances go for the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe, it is more than probable that this car will be able to make it to 0-60 mph in around 5 seconds. It will make it a full second quicker than the standard model. With this we are also expecting a top speed of 130 mph, presumably.
What About the Fuel Economy?
The new 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe does still not have any news regarding the fuel economy. This is because the fuel economy of the Spider car, which drivetrain it will borrow, has yet to be determined. The soon as the powertrain is completed and the engine is established we will have an idea on how much fuel would the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe also consume.
Size and Design
The size of the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe is probably going to be the same as the Fiat Spider. Since they are mostly basing this car on the Spider vehicle and they are potentially toying with organizing a Championship, these two cars have to have the same measurements for the race. So it is safe to say that both the cars will be more or less the same in terms of size.
Will the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe Enhance the Safety?
The potential 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe will have to make sure that the safety specs are in check. Of course they are not going to add all of the race ones seen in the race-spec versions of the 124 models, but a more road-friendly package will be made. There are many things which will have to be taken into account which will determine the safety of the model and the passengers inside.
What Rivals are there in the Segment?
With the 2019 Abarth 124 Coupe possibly happening, we can also think of some rivaling vehicles that could also be potential substitutes for this vehicle. Besides the obvious look-alike the Mazda MX-5 and the 124 Spider the closest one is the Porsche 718 Cayman which might provide us with a potentially similar offer.
