The newest 2019 Audi S7 has been caught for the first time as a test vehicle wearing camo and doing rounds. It is the first ever glimpse we have ever seen of the new S7 model and it hints at a lot of changes which the next-generation model is getting up to. Being that these are the first sightings of this vehicle, there are not a lot of information to go on, but it is still a lot to be excited about.
The “Sportback” style body, as they refer to it, or the four-door hatchback has to be one of the most awesome looking types of design ever seen on the market. It is a very stylish option and it all started in 2012 when these cars started appearing with only the Mercedes-Benz CLS coupe being released prior than that within the Sportback luxury segment. This new trend lead to the making of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Audi A7 Sportback cars. In 2010, Audi made the S7 which was an amped up model of the A7 model and came with a 4.0-liter displaced V-8 engine and the ability to speed up to 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds. The last time this car has been updated was in 2015 when the Audi S7 was given a very solid facelift. But with the 2019 Audi S7 model we are going into unknown territory as they are preparing for a completely new car.
The 2019 Audi S7 will use the Prologue Avant Concept design to establish its look. Based on the pictures that we are able to see now, this car is looking pretty good and there is still more to be learned about before the release date arrives. Our review will show you what are the changes and additions that the S7 made and how they incorporate into the newest design of the car.
When is the Release Date of the 2019 Audi S7?
The newest 2019 Audi S7 has just been spotted and there are no indications about the expected release date. But if we were to speculate it is clear that the model is going to be ready for the 2019 model year. We are expecting it to come out early within the year or at least within the start of the year.
What Price could we Expect?
It is still early to tell whether the 2019 Audi S7 will get a price boost or not. But in our opinion this is a next-gen model so we are probably looking at a small rise in the price. The current entry-level Premium Plus trim costs $79,900 as a base MSRP while the range-topping Prestige model comes at $83,475. Expect the numbers of the 2019 vehicle to start from $80,500 for the base or $85,000 for the top version.
The Design of the 2019 Audi S7
When seeing the 2019 Audi S7 for the first time, even with the camo, it was obvious that they went for the cues taken from the Prologue Avant Concept. The front end has the same hexagonal grille which is stretched across the front end and the added air intakes in the corners which seem pretty noticeable there. Besides this, the ultimate change could be seen from the headlights where the lower part of the light is flat while the upper edge goes along the contour of the hood. It is also seen that the hood is very smooth which means that the sharp body pieces were ditched for this model.
The side view of the vehicle sees the same body line on the lower door part which is very distinctive for the previous design. The mirrors are just a tad bit shorter while the rear quarter panels have been extended outward. The roof will complete that Sportback look with a shapely design which in turn gives us a sharp look as well.
The rear of the 2019 Audi S7 will add new taillights which come as much thinner and have a more of a rounded shape on the top part and the outside rim as well. The lenses mounted on the tailgate have a new shape as well and we also expect to see a completely different layout for the lenses. The adaptive spoiler is going to be carried over and generally speaking the whole back fascia does not add any large changes.
Not Much about the Interior
As these are the initial spy photos of the 2019 Audi S7, they do not show us much about the inside of the car. But we would not expect the interior to change so much in the first place. We can expect to see some standard additions like in every Audi vehicle, a touchscreen display on the upper portion of the center stack which goes with the updated HVAC vents placed below. The center console will probably not change much and it would only tone down the use of buttons a bit.
Carbon fiber inserts are placed in the dash and the door panels while the center console adds polished aluminum with black inserts and carbon fiber as well. Also added are going to be the sports seats and a flat bottom steering wheel and we cannot forget the latest Audi’s virtual cockpit instead of a usual instrument cluster. We expect a two-color style for the cabin with some new color choices.
There are no words for now about the potential engine used for the 2019 Audi S7. The model will presumably continue using the current one which is the V-8 engine with a 4.0-liter displacement making 450 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. But we are hoping that the engine is updated and that the power shift is enhanced, giving the 2019 S7 a potential output of 470 horses and 420 pound-feet of twist. The model will probably get the Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system which comes standardly with an S Tronic and a 7-speed dual clutch shifter.
2019 Audi S7 0-60 mph and Top Speed
The acceleration ability of the 2019 Audi S7 is still not familiar but with the current engine it is able to reach 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and have a top speed of 155 mph. If the mentioned updates get to be made we are potentially going to get a 4.3 or 4.4 acceleration time while the top speed will still be limited to the same.
Fuel Economy Ratings
Enhancing the fuel economy of the 2019 Audi S7 is going to be tough. For now there are no indications that they might try to do it and it might remain the same. Even with the updates made to the engine the current EPA rating of 17 mpg city drive and 27 mpg highway could remain.
Dimensions and Size
Even with this being the second-generation 2019 Audi S7, the size of the car is said to remain the same. Keeping the dimensions of the model the same size would be odd particularly as this is a completely new vehicle but maybe it proves to be a good step for them to design. The current car is 196.3 inches long and has a wheelbase of 114.8 inches, the height of the car is 55.0 inches and the width is 75.2 inches. As for the interior goes it allows a passenger volume of 94 cu ft with the cargo spacing being 25 cu ft,
Safety Prospects of the Car
For now it is hard to determine the safety equipment of the 2019 Audi S7, but a lot of it is going to be carried over from the current one. But expect to see some updates made in terms of safety as with the newest next-generation S7 we will probably get to see some latest additions in terms of passenger security. More on that as the release date gets closer.
When it comes to sporty models, besides the 2019 Audi S7 there are still the obvious choices in the market. Of course the other two are the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes CLS coupe cars. This is not going to change in the future as these cars are going to be the top ones when it comes to sales.
