What many people have expected is to hear some news about the 2019 Ford Ranger. This is a vehicle that has we sorely miss. People have been craving to see it back for a long time. The Ranger was quite a popular mid-size truck. However it left the US market too early leaving us with a lot of dreams unfulfilled. ButFord is planning to reintroduce the Ford Ranger model back to America. And it might finally happen in 2019.

During the absence of the Ford Range for the US market, Ford has made a global model. They offered and sold it at various other markets all around the world. Now they are going to bring it back. Yet, they are probably going for an update of the current global version. It will then make its way to the US. This is what we are expecting and what we are seeing so far from the 2019 Ford Ranger model.

Sometimes corporate decisions do not go our way though. Fans are not the ones to have a final say in everything. But it appears that the fans did get what they want this time.

But do not get your hopes up. This is solely because of Ford’s revenue and the income that they are trying to boost. But the result is still what the fans want and we are getting a 2019 Ford Ranger coming to us.

The Story Behind the Ford Ranger Discontinuation

Before Ford Ranger makes a comeback on the US market IN 2019, people still remember how the bellowed model was viscous cut from the lineup in 2011. Back then Ford started making more success with its other brands. And things mainly started booming in the full-size segment with the F-150 model.

This is when the designers at Ford decided that they were already making enough with the car which has attracted so much attention. They also decided that they should concentrate more on the top seller and cut the weight. The Ford Ranger was doing well in sales. However, they decided to sacrifice for the greater good of the company.

Thus Ford decided to leave the mid-size segment to the competition and pull out on its Ranger model. The vehicle then became a global brand. It started its new life abroad as it was sold in other markets except the US.

But after a while Ford realized that something was missing from its lineup. They realized that the F-150 will simply not do any more as an entry-level model. There was another thing that happened and it came from the competition. Other models started appearing. This in a way brought back the segment right up.

Ford realized that they are missing out a whole lot by letting a car with a fan base in America linger somewhere else. The decision for a comeback was made abruptly. It is why we are getting the 2019 Ford Ranger now.

When is the Release Date of the 2019 Ford Ranger Expected?

We do not have an exact release date for the 2019 Ford Ranger. Yet we do know that it is going to happen really soon. After the emergence of the rivaling cars, Ford cannot afford to lag behind for too long. So they  need to go with the production of the model quickly.

That’s why is probably the best to simply redesign the truck on the current look of the global model. All expectations point to a date somewhere at the start of 2019. But we could even get it earlier than that. The production of the car is in Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant. All the other models have been cleared away to Mexico to make way for this one to be designed. It will probably take them a lot quicker to finish and prepare it that way.

What About the Price of the 2019 Ford Ranger

It is probably too early to talk about the exact price of the 2019 Ford Ranger, but it is never too early to talk numbers when it comes to the automotive industry. The fact is that Ford cannot afford to go too big this time and has to make their comeback truck competitive.

This means that the price should be and in fact needs to be more close to what the competition is offering. This largely means that the entry price of the car is going to be around 25,000 dollars for starts. But after some modification and optional equipment, with possible an off-road based variant as well on the way, we are looking at a price which could climb all the way up to 40,000 dollars.

Emerging Spy Photos

One of the major facts which confirms the arrival of the 2019 Ford Ranger are the spy photos which have been released. All of the news started appearing once the pictures were released and it was the start of the hype which the Ranger is bringing with its comeback. Although the prototype was not officially confirmed as a Ranger it is pretty easy to discern that this is actually Ford’s mid-size model in its global form. This only further lets us to believe that the global design is going to be used for the comeback model. We have based our review on the specs and features that this car brings.

New Appearance of the Domestic 2019 Ford Ranger

The appearance of the newest 2019 Ford Ranger will certainly resemble the current global variant. Ford is probably planning to bring all the cab configurations as well and make the available in the US. This would mean that the Ranger will be available in a regular cab, crew cab, and extended cab. Also offering a regular cab option would be an advantage for the brand as there are no other vehicles which have this configuration provided.

The look of the car will resemble the outgoing version with only some elements being enlarged and made bigger. There is also going to be a distinction between the trims which is going to be made possible with the different kinds of grilles which the car will have. It is something Ford has already done with the F-150, so it is likely that they do it here as well.

The side of the car will remain the same as the current version. This is due to the cost as it will mean spending a lot more money on designing a new roofline with doors and a cab compared to just using the already developed one. Also the higher trim levels will probably add moonroof and a sliding rear window option additionally.

They will design the back end in a way that many American models are. This probably means an inclusion of a traditionally looking bumper with trailer hitch mounted as well. They are going to add both four- and seven-pen connectors for the trailer lights with LED lighting featured in the back. The last thing that we expect to see is a spring-loaded assist system allowing easier loading capacity for the bed of the car.

Interior Modifications and Additions

They will redesign te interior of the 2019 Ford Ranger. Even though we would like to see a crossover as the global version truly has a very good looking and a handsome interior, the US-spec version will probably end up being redesigned and re-purposed to better fit the American audiences.

The global version has a very clear center stack and features a console-mounted gearshift and there is even a 4WD switch placed there as well. The US version might decide to keep these elements as it is not an oncoming sight to see those now. But it will have to add the cup holders which is a necessity for any American brand car.

As far as gadgets and technology goes, the model will have the latest version of the SYNC system. However,  it will not appear in the base from. So expect to see it for the mid and top versions. This also add Bluetooth connectivity, HD and satellite radio, navigation, voice control, the use of a 360-degree camera system  and also  hands-free phone operation.

As far as the seating goes, the base trim will come with cloth or vinyl covers, which is a good and economical choice. But higher trims will be spruced up with added leather upholstery. We might also get to see wood and metal accents placed all over the car. They will probably do more. And it would probably be good for this car to be if they remodel it a little bit on the inside. Also, it will give it an edge with the American crowds that way.

Possible Drivetrains of the 2019 Ford Ranger

There are actually many ways that the 2019 Ford Ranger could go when it comes to its powertrain. There is a possibility that they borrow an engine from the global lineup as that Ranger offers four options, out of which three are diesel. So we are left with one, the 3.2-liter inline five-cylinder turbo diesel.

An interesting part about this engine is that Ford already has used it in America for their Transit models. And is quite capable of delivering 185 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque of power.

Btu this is only one as there are another possible engine, for instance the  2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder making 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque and the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 used for the F-150 and making 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque.

There is even an opportunity for the 2019 Ford Range to use a 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine and allow it to make 280 horsepower and a respectable 310 pound-feet of torque. This would make the Ranger a performance model of the segment, which is something nobody would have thought about.

If we take a look at the possible transmission options, we could probably expect a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Of course, we expect that the model gets a RWD and 4WD from with the latter one offered optionally.

Platform Choice for the 2019 Ford Ranger

The easiest way for them to make the 2019 Ford Ranger is to simply use the same platform. As it would take immensely more time to make a new one and it will eventually mean spending more money on doing so, the best way to go about this is to transfer the platform from the global version.

The global Ford Ranger had its platform made by Ford Australia. They will simply transfer the same plan in Michigan. The Ford’s Assembly Plant will simply pick off from where they started. The body on frame platform will be optimized for the needs of this market and will fit in perfectly well here.

Emerging Rivaling Cars

With the comeback of the 2019 Ford Ranger, a lot of cars will have to check their models of revision. The thing is that the segment has been dead for a long time. This is one of the main reasons Ford decided to pull out its Ranger in the first place. But the mid-size segment has been revived in a way with emerging, inexpensive models. Things started taking a turn for a much better future in 2015 when they introduced Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon.

These two models solely turned the tides and brought back the segment to life. Although Toyota, Nissan and GM tried to do their best in the future they just continue to run things down into the ground more. But other designers saw and opportunity and realized what they need to do.

Even Honda is making ways with its Ridgeline vehicle and reviving it back as well. The 2019 Ford Ranger is coming back to a segment where other cars have been established in its absence. Ford is trying to take advantage of a developing segment. And they are trying to do it with the popularity of this car. However, we will see if this manages to prove to be lucrative.
