Although its advanced age is something worth pondering about, the new 2017 Aston Martin Vantage is a beautiful and refreshingly mechanical vehicle to drive in this increasingly digital world. Some of the highlights include a compliant ride quality, an engaging driving experience, sharp styling, and a highly customizable interior. The V8 Vantage release date should be expected sometime in the latter half of 2017, as per the industry rumors trolling the internet.
With the Vantage entering the market for the 11th year, there is no doubt that it has proven to be a timeless machine. However, even with its striking and magnificent looks, the Vantage appears to be entangled in a web of vehicles in its class, each of which is trying to showcase their prowess. This has therefore reduced its appeal over the last decade as lots of fresher vehicles are being produced now more than ever.
And despite its engine feeling more sublime when exercised, the V8 Vantage acceleration can’t keep up with similarly priced high-end sports cars for one thing. Even so, the V8 Vantage can’t be accused of being slow thanks to the 565 horsepower offered, but considering its equipped with a clunky single-clutch automated manual transmission system, it may feel antiquated by the new models that offer spectacular performance in mundane driving environments thanks to the slick dual-clutch units.
More apparent is its age in the cabin. The “new” infotainment system is laughably old and it isn’t responsive and easy-to-use as the newer models. It literally lacks the safety, convenience, entertainment, and comfort features that are now common in luxury performance vehicles. The center console design is dated and feels surprisingly cheap. Other cons include an expensive price tag, unsophisticated automatic transmission system, and dated interior controls.
Apparently, the only Vantage vintage’s upside seems to be its refreshing driving experience. And while the Aston Martin platform was engineered before features such as electric power steering, advanced stability and turbochargers, many would argue such technologies rob it the soul of a sports car.
