New 2017 Ford Edge – Release Date, Specs & Info

With a spacious and well-trimmed interior, carlike road manners, and a generous features content, the 2017 Ford Edge is a strong choice for a five-seat midsize crossover SUV. Other strengths include a plethora of high tech and luxury features, a powerful Sport model, an efficient base engine, and a sophisticated ride quality. Its released should be expected sometime in the early beginning of 2017.

For 2017, the Edge is available in an array of eye-catching colors, including the Electric Spice, shown in one of the spy photos here. Well, with a name that perfectly substantiates what it actually is, the new model neatly balances between segments.

2017 Ford Edge spy shots

For example, it offers more space than a conventional small crossover would, without the necessarily being a third-row juggernaut such as the likes of Ford Flex and Ford Explorer. This is one crossover that is hard to match in any one specific area, and Ford hopes to leverage heavily on this to propel it to the top of its segment rankings.

2017 Ford Edge exterior, rear view

Surprisingly, the Edge, despite its generous cargo and passenger room and its midsize footprint, still manages to feel maneuverable and tidy on the road. This may partly be attributed to the recent redesign Ford did on the Edge that encompassed several improvements on its suspension and body structure. The result was a small crossover SUV that has sedan road-manners even with a weight that exceeds two tons.

Its interior is covered with premium materials, at least for most of the surfaces. In fact, its center console, dash, and doors are all soft to touch. The only exception here is the hard-plastic adorned center stack. Otherwise, just about every surface the driver is commonly interacting with has a quality finish and feel.

The upgraded infotainment system has been upgraded and offers faster response times and a simplified user interface than the outgoing system with was rather polarizing and slower to respond. Idiosyncrasies do exist, however, that keep Ford from being the decisive victor in this hotly contested segment. They include an underwhelming performance especially from the base model, and sluggish downshift for the automatic transmission system.

Some of the rivals you could check out include the 2017 Kia Sorento, the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the recently redesigned 2017 Nissan Murano.

2017 Ford Edge Engine Specs

Inspiration for the 2017 Ford Edge is derived from several engine options offered under the hood of the SUV. Standard across except for the Edge Sport is the 2.0L four-cylinder mill rated at 245 hp and 275 lbs. ft. of torque. Zipping from 0-60 mph with the AWD version only needs 8.3 seconds.

2017 Ford Edge engine

A 3.5L V6 is offered for both the Edge SEL and Titanium models, and is able to crank out 280 horsepower and 250 pounds-ft. of torque. EPA says this mill should be expected to return about 26/18/21 mpg on the highway/city/combined for the FWD versions, and 25/17/20 mpg for the AWD models.
