By today’s standards, this is the only vehicle that successfully spans the cultural chasm between Sunset Strip and Beirut. For starters, this is a vehicle that has been used extensively in the military in over six continents, served civilians globally, and won the Dakar Rally once. Therefore, it is an understatement to call it versatile.

Interior wise, the SUV designed with ancient underpinnings capable of landmines-laden craters’ navigation offers incongruously contemporary engineering and leather-wrapped luxury surfaces. It’s heavy, its square, it rides, it steers like the decades-old military vehicle – and this is what makes it popular.

However, utility and practicality aren’t high on this SUV. Other cons include abysmal fuel economy, ineffective cupholders and interior storage, limited front legroom, and unwieldy handling. If you can’t live with this, there are other tangentially related competitors in the segment with as much muscle or attitude. Some of them include the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover and the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The 2020 Mercedes–Benz G-Class is nevertheless hard to beat.

With those mechanical tidbits in place, the result is a car that stops, steers, and corners like a true sports car. As such, it will be hard to opt for another car within the same price range as the AMG GT. But truth be told, the 2017 Porsche 911 continues to be the epitome of performance and holds the throne when it comes to the sports car dominance. Other alternatives you should consider include the 2017 Audi R8, and the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

A Camouflaged 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS Spotted Recently

The rumored 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class has been confirmed as the car has been sited on the streets recently. The CLS-Class model is still wearing heavy camo and does manage to conceal a lot about its appearance and leaves us with a lot of things which still have to be learned about it. But it is really exciting to see that they are bringing back this model in an updated form.

The E-Class model has just been updated and released and has even received new underpinnings as well. What is exciting about this is that the current CLS model is based on the E-Class cars, so we are certain that the new CLS-Class will use the new pieces which the E-Class got. The E-Class is in turn inspired by the S-Class models so in a way it makes all parts connected and go together. For now we are certain that the new model will borrow heavily from the car it is already based on and will mix them up with AMG GT design and carry over some sporty elements from there.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class will certainly keep all the tropes which were unique to this car and only build up upon them. The car is known for having a very strong coupe kind of a stance which is combines with an exclusiveness and the practicality you get with a four-door sedan. It is something unique when you think about it and is a perfect model for the luxury segment as well. There is no other vehicles in the Mercedes lineup which is able to do the same.

The original CLS-Class car was launched in 2004 and introduced a completely new niche to the world. It was a unique model in the market for around five years after which a lot of competitors started copying the same formula with their own vehicles. But Mercedes wants to stay in the top of the segment and that is why there needs to be an update. The current third-generation model was made in 2010 and this one is getting pretty old so there is a great need to redesign this car and release the next-gen model

Potential Exterior of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

As it was mentioned, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is going to heavily really on the E-Class for its looks. But there is still a lot about the car which is not visible yet and there is a certain amount which we still need to see. The camo does reveal a bit and the sharp eye of the photographer who took the spy photos is able to reveal certain details. The front sports a wide diamond grille which comes with horizontal wings on the sides. The new shape of the bumper is as wide as the opening is and is flanked with big outlets. It is all aggressively shaped and coincides with the headlamps which are directly transferred from the AMG GT model. The hood is completely flat and it actually toned down the aggressiveness and makes for a good combination of the front end of the car.

The side of the car will still have some trademark pieces which the Mercedes CLS is known for. The arched beltline and the low roof are both transferred from the previous model while the D-pillars are raked and go with the deck lid which is shorter and comes at a different angel for the rear fascia. The most noticeable difference of the back is that the fascia is heavily raked towards the cabin. The rear bumper is similar to other Mercedes products and the taillights are very slim and extend from the outer part of the bumper to the trunk lid.

When the camo is finally taken off we will probably be able to see some unique additions which are probably going to be made. But for now these are the only visible ones.

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Will Have Similar Interior as Before

It is rare that spy photos get to be taken, but luckily there was one of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class which shows us how they plan to redesign the car. Although it is only one it is enough to help us discern the changes that the car has made. But in this case it only confirms the fact that the CLS interior is going to be based mostly on the S-Class and E-Class designs. There are some not-so-subtle hints which actually confirm that the cabin in based on other cars but essentially it looks like any Mercedes product out there that you have probably seen before.

Actually the 2019 CLS-Class model does not have many pieces which can be called unique for it. The center console which also include the air conditioning controls as well as the positon of the shifter is clearly taken from the E-Class. The instrument cluster and the infotainment display are next to each other which is also taken from the same car. But they do manage to add some green ambient lights which make the dash and the whole lot of controls seem interesting. Even without any sort of uniqueness here the model is going to look pretty great.

We only have one picture to work with so there is a lot which could change. The model might be hiding something that we cannot see and there is also the matter of the seating and the materials which could also be updated and go into its own separate direction. We assume that they are going to do more in the comfort department.

Drivetrain Options

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is going to use the same underpinnings as the E-Class has changed to. So these two cars continue to have the same relationship that they used to have in the previous generations. There is a great possibility that the car is going to use the 2.0-liter inline-four engine but will probably go for the variant in the E300 which makes 242 horses and 270 lb-ft of torque. It will mostly likely act as the base option for the car. The E400 version should give more power and it will probably use a 3.0-liter V-6 engine producing 328 hp and 350 pound-feet of torque. Both models will be combined with a 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

We are also probably looking at an AMG 63 option which would bring the twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 engine to use. It is good enough to provide 563 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of twist, while in the S from it can give us 604 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. The AMG CLS43 version which utilizes the power of a V-6 engine is still a possibility but it was not mentioned that they might use it here. But the prospect of the 350e hybrid model is looking ever so possible and it might just enable them to earn a rating of 208 hp and 260 feet of torque.

As far as diesel options go, the ones on the table include the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine but they are not going to go for the base one and use the secondary 220d unit which produces 191 horsepower and comes with 300 pound feet of torque. The second diesel variant is a more powerful one which provides 254 hp and 460 found feet of torque though the use of a 3.0-liter V-6 engine.

Possible 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Prices

The price of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is going to increase, but luckily it will not be exponentially but only slightly. The current base MSRP price of the outgoing model is $66,900 and we predict that the 2019 version might go for $68,000. The AMG versions on the other hand will be priced at $100,000.

What About the Competition

As far as the competition vehicle go the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is going to face only a handful of models in its path. The purpose of the update is to make the car more competitive and help it get a fresher look compared to the rivals. The ones to watch out in the segment include the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Audi A7 options.

Possible Release Date of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

Now when the spy photos of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class are out the release date seems more likely. There were speculations which even said that we are not going to see the new CLS soon, but when seeing the car on the streets and seeing the stage of development it is in we are looking more confident in getting it. But it will still be some time until we get it and we can probably be able to see this car during the 2018 year.
