The new 2017 Opel Astra is the eleventh generation model, and stays true to its history that spans several decades. According to the automaker, the new model is developed on a new lightweight vehicle architecture, and powered by some of the latest generation engines, and connected via ultra-modern smartphone integration features. As a bonus, Opel will also offer high-end features to all Astra models – features that would have otherwise be only offered as options. Release date rumors are also covered in this review.
With its flowing lines and sculpted design, the newcomer epitomizes Opel’s design philosophy. Relative to the existing model, the new model looks leaner and dynamic also. In overall: the new 2017 Opel Astra redefines the compact class with its newfound elegance and efficiency. Although we could not independently establish this, rumors allege the new model sheds additional weight in addition to the 200 kilograms it shed last year. This should be achieved through various measures including reducing the dimensions, offering more aerodynamic cues, and offering lightweight material appointment inside. In spite of the reduced dimensions, the comfort and spaciousness of the new model have considerably increased.
Since the previous model received the latest generation engines, it is highly unlikely that the new model will alter its specifications. If that’s the case, then the new 2017 Opel Astra will return with a portfolio of diesel and gasoline mills that generate an output ranging from 95 horsepower to 145 horsepower.
With a ground-breaking adaptive IntelliLux LED matrix light, state-of-the-art smartphone integration, and personal connectivity and service assistant, the new 2017 Opel Astra is a rare breed of a compact car. Furthermore, Opel says more of these assistance systems and technologies will be provided optionally for the basic versions.
Once available, the new model will have to battle it out with the Volkswagen Golf and the Ford Focus if it is to survive. Pricing for the Volkswagen Golf starts from an MSRP of around $18,000 for the USA market. Although the Ford Focus lacks the upscale look and feel of either the Astra or the Golf, it brings with it lots of fun not necessarily offered by the two vehicles. Pricing is within the same region as the Golf.
